We thought it might be helpful to give you an idea of what to expect from us at Corydon Baptist Church. We hope this area of our site will give you an idea.

First, we are a group of imperfect, sinful people who have found (really who have been found by) Jesus Christ. We come from all different backgrounds and experiences, but what unites us is that we know we need Jesus, and we want other people to Him too.

We are working to be a community of disciples who exist to submit to, spread , and savor the reign of King Jesus.

Here are some of the things we are passionate about:

Expository Preaching that Focuses on Jesus Christ—Jesus said that true disciples "abide" in His word (John 8:31). It is the Bible that "is able to give [us] the wisdom that leads to salvation" (2 Timothy 3:15). God's people need God's word. We need to understand it. We need to be constantly changed by it. And we need to live it out in the real world.

Here's the other thing: we live in a world full of real suffering and pain. Trite answers don't help, but God has provided real answers for real life in the Bible.

Finally, we are convinced that Jesus is the central focus of the whole Bible—and the ultimate answer to every one of our problems.

For these reasons, we take preaching and teaching seriously. We want to help people know Jesus, and He has chosen to reveal Himself primarily (as strange as it may seem) through words and sentences in a written book.

So, here is how we do it: we choose a book of the Bible. We start at the beginning and seek to understand it one paragraph at a time until we get to the end. Then, we move to another book. This approach helps us make sure that God is deciding what is being taught. We don't harp on our own pet issues or skip over difficult parts. We take it all, because He says all of it is true and profitable (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

This method treats the Bible with the respect and intellectual weight it deserves. It provides a great opportunity for people to hear from God. God uses His word to save unbelievers (James 1:18) and to nourish believers (1 Peter 2:2).

Authentic Lives and Relationships—We want to be a church where you don't feel like you need to hide the fact that you are a sinner. We all struggle with sin and have problems.

At the same time, we want to follow Jesus in the real world—in our homes and at our jobs and even when nobody is watching.

We know ourselves enough to know that we have a tendency to hide our sin. Therefore, we pursue real relationships where we can genuinely know and love each other. We know we need each other for encouragement when life is tough and for correction when we get tricked into disobedience or compromise.

One way we intentionally cultivate authentic relationships is through Community Groups. During our times together, we talk openly about our struggles and seek to work God's truth into our everyday lives.

A Focus on Families—God has chosen the family to serve as the foundation upon which healthy people, churches, and society itself is built. In many circles, God's blueprint for the family is being abandoned, undermined, and even openly attacked. The results are devastating, painful, and sad. Therefore, we strive to equip and encourage families to live according to God's good and wise design. We know from experience that living under Jesus' good authority in our homes will result in stability, peace, and lasting happiness.

A Commitment to Mercy—Jesus Christ was sent to proclaim the good news of His reign "to the poor" (Luke 4:18). The kingdom of God is good news because it means an end to the kingdom of Satan. The end to a kingdom plagued by chaos, injustice, racism, hopelessness, suffering, and death. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus Christ is bringing a new kingdom where He will rule eternally with perfect justice, righteousness, and peace (Isaiah 9:6-7; 11:1-9; Mark 1:14-16). Therefore, we are seeking to following follow Jesus by speaking truth, providing protection, and serving our fellow man sacrificially.
